Prime Minister Narendra Modi today hailed the role of the media in popularizing the Swachh Bharat mission, yoga, fitness and the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign, saying these are matters beyond the realm of politics and political parties.
Inaugurating the celebrations of the centenary of the Malayalam daily ‘Mathrubhumi’, by videoconference, the Prime Minister paid tribute to all the outstanding personalities of the newspaper’s journey. He said “inspired
by the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, Mathrubhumi was born to strengthen India’s freedom struggle”.
Modi placed the publication in the glorious tradition of newspapers and periodicals founded all over India to unite the people of our nation against colonial rule.
The Prime Minister explained the positive impact of the media on New India’s campaigns. He gave the example of the Swachh Bharat mission where each media house has assumed this mission with great sincerity.
He added that the media has played a very encouraging role in popularizing
Yoga, fitness and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.
“These are matters that go beyond politics and political parties. They aim to create a better nation in the years to come,” Modi said.
The Prime Minister said that although we did not have the opportunity to sacrifice our lives during Swarajya’s freedom struggle, “however, this Amrit Kaal gives us the opportunity to work for a strong, developed and inclusive”.
Modi suggested that the media can amplify efforts to highlight lesser-known events in the freedom struggle and unsung freedom fighters and places associated with the struggle.
Likewise, newspapers can be a great way to give a platform to future writers from non-media backgrounds and promote regional languages in areas where they are not spoken, he said.
