Ilttin always liked Garcia Marquez’s reportage works However, I found it really similar to the Middle East, although more hopefull. What becomes clear as the book comes to an end is that this is essentially a tale of a man who’s had several frightening close calls with the regime, but managed by luck and the goodwill of certain people in positions to help to escape the horrendous realities of the Pinochet’s regime meted out to perceived enemies and other vulnerable people living within Chile.
